Stress Free Dental Work

Thousands of men and women undergo dental procedures every year, from simple cleanings to complex restorative work. Many of these dental patients suffer from some level of dental anxiety, and would rather be anywhere than in the dentist’s office. This increased level of dental anxiety may cause many people to skip their dentist appointment, even if they know they badly need a procedure to help restore bite function, or lessen pain.

If the thought of having a dental procedure causes you increased anxiety, sedation dentistry may be just what you have been looking for. Sedation dentistry is an ideal way to ensure complete comfort and relaxation during every part of your general or cosmetic dental procedure. Dr. Whitmore and his team will discuss sedation dentistry if you are anxious about any part of your visit.

Types of Sedation

There are three types of sedation available for patients with dental anxiety:

  • Nitrous oxide
  • Oral medication
  • Intravenous

The type of sedation you require will be based on the procedure you are having performed and your level of comfort prior to your procedure. Methods of sedation allow you to remain conscious and responsive at all times during your procedure. The only difference will be a heightened level of comfort and ease. However, if you require intravenous sedation, you will be in what is referred to as twilight sedation, that is, nearly asleep. You will also likely not remember your dental procedure at all.

If you are planning to have sedation prior to your procedure, you should arrange for a ride home from our office. While our sedation is safe and effective, it can last longer than your procedure and may require some time to rest following your dismissal from our office. This will be discussed with you in full during your initial consultation.

If you are anxious about your upcoming dental procedure, and would like to learn more about sedation dentistry, contact Janet at Whitmore Dental to arrange a consultation by calling Whitmore Dental at 877-779-4486. We are conveniently located at 5932 West Parker Road, Suite 600, Plano, TX 75093.
